No Borders to You(th)

How inclusive is the educational framework in the European Union? Are there non-formal education activities that are equally targeted at all individuals in a group? Are the institutions active in the field of European educational programmes accessible? What can we do to really talk about equal opportunities?

In the No Borders to You(th) project , four organisations from Portugal, Spain and Greece respectively (the Portuguese Red Cross Youth, the Psychology Association of the University of Minho (APSI), Fundación Magtel and liminal) met to map the accessibility and inclusion needs in the context of Non-formal Education in Europe.

In a room with a wooden floor, a group of about 20 people are seated in a circle on the floor. Each person's hands rest gently on the knees of the person next to them on either side. On their faces there is a calm, cheerful and inquiring expression.

The lack of accessibility in organizations often stems from the activities themselves, which are not designed to include people with disabilities, resulting in the absence of Non-Formal Education (NFE) tools for this audience, contributing to their exclusion from differentiated educational opportunities and, consequently, to their social exclusion and reduced youth employability.

No Borders to You(th) – In Action!

After 18 months of work, the No Borders to You(th) web platform is launched, proposing an inclusive approach for facilitators and trainers who come in contact with groups of people with and without disabilities.

Seeking an inclusive approach in our own processes, just like the one we propose in our educational activities, we considered it important from the beginning to design the platform with the people who will use it. In a second stage, the aim is to test the proposed tools and evaluate them both in terms of educational approach as well as accessibility, so that the final material fully meets the needs of the community.

For this reason, on Sunday 24 November from 11:00-13:30 we invite people with disabilities and facilitators who are interested in expanding their methodologies in inclusive groups, so that we can learn and have fun in a participatory way that wants us all to be part of the change we dream to see!

As a starting point, we will build on activities related to Mental Health and Inclusive Societies and create a secure learning framework for all of us. The workshop does not require any preparation from the participants. The goal is:

  • to explore ways of horizontal learning,
  • to promote accessible activities and tips for the facilitators
  • to open the way for trainers and facilitators with disabilities to build their own approach on Non-Formal Education methodologies.
