Matariki | Dance workshop

Ko koe ko au, ko au ko koe / I be you, you be me

liminal invites disabled and non-disabled people who are interested in dance, to participate in a workshop aimed at creating choreographies inspired by the constellation Pleiades. Matariki (Pleiades in Maori) is an educational tool designed by Touch Compass, leading disability-led performing arts organisation, in Aotearoa, New Zealand.

Πάνω αριστερά, υπάρχει το κυκλικό logo της Touch Compass, ενώ στο κέντρο της εικόνας με λευκά γράμματα είναι γραμμένο "MATARIKI Ko koe ko au, ko au ko koe (I be you, you be me)".

In Aotearoa New Zealand, Matariki heralds the start of the Māori new year when the cluster rises into the sky during the midwinter months of June-July.
Traditionally, the celebration of Matariki took place during the time of year when harvest and food stores had built up. Communities and whānau (family) gathered to share ceremonies, kōrero (talk), kai (food), and entertainment, looking forward to the new year ahead.

Matariki invites us to connect with our whānau and friends, to celebrate the harvest in our life, the generosity and abundance of nature.

In 2022, over 500+ participants engaged with Touch Compass’ interactive Matariki educational resource. This year, the organization wishes to celebrate the spirit of Matariki by extending this interactive educational experience to schools and organisations around the world, inviting them to celebrate this star cluster in their own culture through a lens of disability awareness.
