FRIDAS is starting!

We are thrilled to announce the launch of FRIDAS – Freedom in Rights Identities driven through Arts and Sports. A two-year European project co-funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ Programme (Cooperation Partnerships – ERASMUS-SPORT-2025-SCP).

On a vivid purple background, the words Freedom in Rights Identities driven through arts and sports are written in green letters. In the top right corner, the logo appears—a blooming flower resembling a white chrysanthemum. At the bottom, square frames with white borders are aligned in a row, forming a grid.

From January 2026 to December 2027 FRIDAS brings together seven organisations from five countries (Italy, Spain, Bulgaria, Croatia and Greece) and seeks to create a space where all identities are valued and inclusion becomes a central element of the community.

Why FRIDAS?

Inspired by the life and work of Frida Kahlo, FRIDAS combines rugby – a sport based on loyalty, trust, and team spirit – with  multimedia arts, storytelling and gamification to create an innovative learning and experiential framework.

The project sparks a conversation about a broader and more meaningful understanding of inclusion, going beyond gender equality to emphasize diversity and accessibility, with a particular focus on people with disabilities.

FRIDAS team

The FRIDAS project is coordinated by  Latitudo Art Projects (Italy) and is implemented in collaboration with liminal (Greece) and five rugby clubs:

The stages of the project

FRIDAS aims to challenge stereotypes, foster empathy, and cultivate a culture of respect and equal participation. Over the course of two years, a series of activities will be implemented to promote accessibility, equality, and inclusion.

A Gilbert rugby ball rests on dry grass. At the top, the word “Fridas” is written in curved, whimsical lettering formed by unusual characters. In the bottom right corner, a graphic illustration shows a person in athletic attire using a wheelchair, typing on a laptop balanced on their lap.

Specifically, the following activities will be carried out:

  1. 5 exchange visits in Greece, Bulgaria, Croatia, Spain, Italy.
  2. Artistic and digital workshops for co-designing a video game that promotes inclusivity by allowing players to experience adaptive sports.
  3. Capacity-building activities.
  4. Interactive webinars with experts on inclusion, gender, and disability.
  5. Wheelchair rugby matches.
  6. Production of an online video game, a handbook of good practices, and a visual dictionary on inclusion

A lively kick-off in Athens!

From March 17 to 19, 50 participants from the partner organizations will gather in Athens to take part in workshops, educational activities, and inclusive sports sessions, which will be hosted at the building of the General Secretariat of the City of Athens and the indoor basketball court at Rouf.

The first FRIDAS meeting, officially marking the launch of the project, will take place in Athens!

On Thursday, March 19 at the indoor basketball court in Rouf the participants will play the first wheelchair rugby match.

Following that, join us at 13:30 for the open symposium that will also take place at the indoor basketball court in Rouf. Experts from various fields will share knowledge and experiences, creating a space for dialogue and social cohesion. Don’t miss it!

In the background of the lush green outdoor space hosting the children, a graphic light green flower and the illustration of an athlete with long purple hair holding a rugby ball are visible.

The open symposium is part of the Municipality of Athens’ March initiative: “Disability Awareness Activities Month”.

The activities in Athens are organized by liminal in collaboration with all project partners and mark the beginning of a shared European journey toward inclusion, diversity, and equal participation in sports and the arts.

We sincerely thank the Municipality of Athens for their generous hospitality.
