Interview: The Phenomenal Performance is Back

Interview, the first play that liminal made fully accessible, returns to the stage with SDH subtitles (for Deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences) in Greek and English. This socio-political black comedy by the Emeis theatre company, directed by Christos Thanos, will be performed at OLVIO Theatre from October 17, 2025 to January 10 2026.
About the play
A job interview, four candidate and one voice.
The process begins normally, in a warm and friendly atmosphere. The candidates relax, letting their vulnerabilities show—but soon, the voice starts asking absurd questions and putting them through humiliating tests, leading to a darkly comic spiral of absurdity.
Humor is at the heart of the play. Drawing on the rules of comedy as their main tool, the company deliberately steers clear of gloom and despair, seeking instead to challenge audiences—and even awaken them—to the absurdities and realities of everyday life.
Power and the powerless. The system and the citizens. Capital and the consumers. Employers and employees. The voice and the candidates. Timeless relationships of hatred and passion, conflict and interdependence.
In an age where these opposing poles are drifting further apart at an ever-accelerating pace, the Emeis company explores their darkly comic relationship, pushing its boundaries with a deliberate aim to demystify it.
Interview was created collaboratively by the company during rehearsals in 2013 and has since been performed over 230 times in Greece and abroad. Thousands of spectators have seen it in theatres, detention centers, rehabilitation centers, and exhibition spaces. The play has been honored by the Club for “UNESCO of Piraeus and Islands” and has been staged by local theatre companies in Kalamata and New York.
The first fully accessible play by liminal
In 2017, liminal created fully accessible services for the first time for Interview. The play was performed in May 2017 at the Multi-purpose space “Anna & Maria Kalouta”. Eight years later, liminal is providing SDH surtitles (for Deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences) in Greek and English.

Director’s note

When, in 2013, at the height of what was called the “economic crisis,” we co-created the text of Interview with the theatre company Εμείς, we could never have imagined that a decade later, the concerns and anxieties expressed in the play would still be at the heart of Greek society. Personally, I am called to direct again, after 10 years, a play with which I feel a deep and profound connection, approaching it as if it were an unfamiliar text that has come into my hands for the first time in 2025. My primary motivation for this decision is the artistic reconnection with the beloved people who make up the theatre company Emeis. After all, we do theatre mostly… “for the company.”
