About autism
World Autism Day is celebrated every year on the 2nd of April, by decision of the UN General Assembly, to raise awareness of autism spectrum disorders worldwide. According to the World Health Organization, currently 1 in 100 children are on the autism spectrum.
Autism is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder part of the Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) group. The term “spectrum” refers to the range and complexity of expressions, challenges and potentials, different for each individual. Like all of us, each person on the autism spectrum is unique. With this in mind, the symbol adopted by relevant organisations around the world is the symbol of infinity, symbolising diversity and variation.
