Pinocchio at the National Theatre with Universal Accessibility

The National Theatre with the support of Alpha Bank, in the framework of its “Culture for All” programme and in collaboration with liminal, presents the children’s performance “Pinocchio” directed by Vasilis Mavrogeorgiou in conditions of universal accessibility.

The National Theatre, the first scene in the country, believes in equality and the right of all people to unhindered access to performances and to participation with equal opportunities in theatrical activities.

Alpha Bank, remaining true to its commitment to equal access for all to social and cultural activities, but also seeking to raise awareness of accessibility issues among the general public, is collaborating with the National Theatre, opening a new cycle of performances in conditions of universal accessibility.

About Pinocchio

A magic box full of surprises and unexpected gifts opens at the Children’s Stage of the National Theatre. Vasilis Mavrogeorgiou directs Carlo Collodi’s beloved story Pinocchio, in a modern version written by Chris Cooper, and leads us on a great adventure where everything changes and everything is possible!

 

Ανθρώπινες φιγούρες με πολύχρωμα ρούχα και καπέλα έχουν τα χέρια τους περασμένα σε λευκά σχοινιά που καταλήγουν στο πάνω μέρος της θεατρικής σκηνής. Οι παγωμένες εκφράσεις του προσώπου τους και η στάση των σωμάτων τους τους κάνουν να θυμίζουν μαριονέτες. Στο πίσω μέρος της σκηνής, ένας άντρας είναι ανεβασμένος σε ένα κόκκινο βάθρο και έχει τα χέρια του υψωμένα και σε κίνηση σα να ορίζει τις κινήσεις τους με τις χειρονομίες του.

The classic tale that has nurtured and captivated generations of young and old alike for decades tells the adventures of a wooden puppet, Pinocchio. Fox and Cat will persuade him to stray from his school path, assuring him that if he follows them a life of adventure and carefree fun awaits him. But nothing will be as promised and Pinocchio will be forced to overcome thousands of obstacles, to resist temptations, to change, to grow stronger and more mature, so that in the end he will be reunited with his father, Geppetto.

 

Universal accessibility at Pinocchio

The performances will be accessible:

● for people with visual disabilities with a Guided Touch Tour before the start of the performances and Audio Description Services during the performances.

● for Deaf and Hard of Hearing people with simultaneous Interpretation in Greek Sign Language and SDH Supertitles.

The accessible performances will take place on the following days and times:

Σε μία σκοτεινή άδεια θεατρική σκηνή με μπλε νυχτερινό φωτισμό, ένας άνδρας ντυμένος με πράσινη φορεσιά κι ένα καπέλο από το οποίο ξεπετάγονται δύο τεράστιες κεραίες συγκρατεί από το μπράτσο ένα νεαρό αγόρι που είναι έτοιμο να κόψει με μαχαίρι τη φουντωτή ουρά μιας αλεπούς ντυμένης με γιλέκο, σακάκι και παντελόνι. Το αγόρι με κόκκινο μυτερό καπέλο, πράσινο πουά γιλέκο και κίτρινο καρό σορτσάκι έχει στο δέρμα του καφετιές γραμμές που μοιάζουν με τα νερά του ξύλου.

Σε θεατρική σκηνή, ένας γάτος ντυμένος με φράκο, ριγέ παντελόνι, μαύρα στρογγυλά γυαλιά κι ένα μακρύ μαύρο ραβδί στα χέρια και μια αλεπού με σακάκι γεμάτο σιρίτια και μια μαγκούρα στο χέρι μιλούν σε ένα αγόρι που κρατά ένα βιβλίο στα χέρια και τους κοιτάζει με αθώο βλέμμα. Το αγόρι με κόκκινο μυτερό καπέλο, πράσινο πουά γιλέκο και κίτρινο καρό σορτσάκι έχει στο δέρμα του καφετιές γραμμές που μοιάζουν με τα νερά του ξύλου. Πίσω τους κάθετες ξύλινες τάβλες σχηματίζουν έναν μεγάλο φράχτη και τρία γυμνά δέντρα με παχείς κορμούς. Στα δεξιά της σκηνής είναι τοποθετημένη μια ξύλινη ταμπέλα που δείχνει δεξιά προς το Σχολείο της Ζωής και αριστερά προς το Σχολείο του Χωριού.
